The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) publishes the following updated Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) Physician Guidelines and Checklists, which reflect the latest rule changes regarding injectable routes of administration of glucocorticoids (GCs) coming into force on 1 January 2022 under the 2022 List of Prohibited Substances and Methods (List).
- TUE Physician Guidelines
TUE Physician Guidelines aim to guide and assist TUE Committees (TUECs) in the decision-making process for TUE applications. They include updated guidance on how to evaluate TUE requests for six different medical conditions, such as asthma or musculoskeletal conditions, where GCs may be used.
The updated TUE Physician Guidelines can be found under the Medical Information to Support the Decisions of TUECs documents collection on WADA’s website.
Please note that TUE Physician Guidelines on other medical conditions will be revised or updated and published before the end of year.
- TUE Checklists
TUE Checklists provide guidance and support to athletes, their physicians and Anti-Doping Organizations (ADOs) during the TUE application process. These Checklists list the requirements for completing the TUE Application Form, including the medical evidence that should be submitted along with it. The Checklists were updated for all the medical conditions for which GCs may be used.
The updated Checklist documents can be found under the TUE Checklist collection.
Upcoming Activities
WADA would also like to take this opportunity to inform or remind stakeholders of the following activities that will be offered by the Agency in the coming months:
TUE Webinar
In order to further assist TUEC members with their understanding and implementation of the GC changes to the 2022 List, WADA will be holding an interactive, invitation-only, TUE webinar for TUEC members on 9 December at 08:00 EST. WADA is currently contacting ADOs with more details on how their physicians can register.
TUE Symposium
On 21-22 April 2022, in Incheon, South Korea, WADA will be hosting its re-scheduled TUE Symposium for physicians and managers who deal with TUEs. Further information regarding the format and registration will be released in the coming months.
